EVENT REPORT
【The 9th Summer Seminar was held 】
The 9th Summer Seminar “Sustainable Development of Cities and Communities: Thriving Locally in a Global Age” was held for four days from August 5 (Mon.) to August 8 (Thu.). A total of 33 participants, including UNP students and students from partner universities in the Philippines, Indonesia, China, South Korea, Mongolia and Canada studied regional revitalization strategies through a special lecture and took part in group work. In addition, students experienced fieldwork in Niigata City (visits to: Imayotsukasa Sake Brewery, Minemura Brewery, and the Northern Culture Museum—for rice cake making), Tsubame City (FUJINOS and Toujiro factories), Sanjo City (SUWADA Blacksmith Works Inc.) and Yahiko Shrine. The students all seemed to enjoy the seminar while at the same time seriously learning new information. During these activities, the students exchanged opinions mainly in English and sometimes in Japanese. On the final day, each group made a presentation on what they had learned during the seminar. Based on screening by our faculty, Group 4 was selected for the Best Presentation Award. Congratulations to Group 4!
