Northeast Asian Economy Session “Strategic Approaches Toward Southeast Asia of Northeast Asian Countries”
With the aim of responding to rising labor prices in China and maintaining supply chains, prolonged efforts by Japanese companies to establish production bases in Southeast Asia have materialized. Similar developments have been observed in other Northeast Asian countries, however, each nation appears to have taken a distinctive approach towards Southeast Asia. Experts from each country will discuss the differences between the economic aspects of strategic approaches employed by Northeast Asian countries regarding Southeast Asia, as well as the potential for cooperation and competitive risks. |

Economic Exchanges Session “Current Status and Prospects of Logistics in Northeast Asia: Utilization of Local Ports in Japan”
Each port along the Sea of Japan coast is examining ways in which to promote its own utilization considering the economic development in Northeast Asian countries, particularly in China. While considering the status quo and latest trends in international logistics under the influence of the coronavirus pandemic and U.S.-China trade friction, we will clarify the current state of logistics and related issues in Japan’s regional ports, reaffirm the potential of the Sea of Japan coastal region as a hub and its superiority, and explore the future prospects of Northeast Asian logistics and the possibility of utilizing local ports in Japan. |
